With a sound that harkens back to classic 80’s artists like The S.O.S Band, Prince and Evelyn “Champagne” King but manages to sound uniquely fresh and modern, Confection compound a lifetime of influences with a whole new bag of natural born sticky sweet funk. Their debut album picked up rave reviews worldwide for the quality, originality and authenticity of their unique sweet funk sound, and dance floors from Sydney to Paris, London to New York have resonated with their timeless groove and melodies.
Confection – Sydney based duo Juanita Tippins and Josh Beagley – started strong with a release on the UK soul label Soulchoonz. The world’s longest running black music magazine, funk-soul bible Blues and Soul rated their debut release “Single Of The Fortnight,” calling ‘I Choose U’ “an almost perfect example of the bouncy, retro modern soul groove” while Soul Express.com loved the slow groover ‘Fantasisin’: “The groove is soulful, funky and full of live instrumentation – check out the slap bass! Simply delicious! Let’s face it, the song simply grooves. This is sheer heaven!”
Since then track after track from the debut album has been lauded as a future classic.
Confection formed in 2006 then spent the next year recording the 10 tracks that filled their self-titled debut album with a hand-picked crew of specialist funk aficionados. The group always set out to create classic funksoul anthems like those of yesteryear – old school synth and slap-bass driven groovers and slowjams, the sort of songs that sound killer on the radio and phat on the dancefloor, with massive choruses and sinewy elastic rhythms. The result is a debut album filled with delectafunkable extended jamz, wall to wall sonic sweetfunk.
Self funded, released and managed the group kicked some major goals with the debut album that helped introduce Confection’s sound to the world and placed them firmly at the forefront of the neo-boogie groove movement.
After a long period of writing and recording with many delays, Confection are readying their second album with the first single from that release “Save Your Precious Time” out now (1st August,2011).
